Teachers will learn how to provide "early" intervention with 4th and 5th grade students who have a history of struggling with reading and spelling in order that they develop stronger core phonological, decoding, encoding, word recognition, vocabulary, and overall reading comprehension skills for entrance into middle school where strong literacy skills will be required across the curriculum for academic success. Word study strategies will be taught, such as finding root morphemes, mapping word derivations, and understanding word origins will also be taught and enhance vocabulary development for reading comprehension.
